I fully understand and support the use of computers in schools, but as a parent I can’t help but think it’s too much. My eldest is at secondary school now and uses the computer regularly for school work which I expected to be the case.
My issue is with my 6 year old. The majority if his homework tasks are set and to be completed online. He is encouraged to blog for school, and always gets sent home links to websites to look things up. Whilst I don’t have issues with him using the computer, I do have issues with online homework.
How can the tasks set be specific to a childs needs if they’re just set the same standard tasks that are available through websites? My child is progressing well at school and we support and encourage him at home, however at parents evening they always comment on his handwriting being a little poor – how can they expect anything else when he is working online so often? I end up being the bad guy making him practise practise practise, when they don’t seem to be doing anything to help!
